    • My hometown, some influential places:
      • Northwestern University – I hung out there as a kid and used their computers – a big CDC 6400 timesharing system, some funky PDP8s, PLATO terminals. Ah youth.
      • Whole Earth Bookstore – my portal into hippiedom
      • Peace Center – a portal into a different aspect of the counterculture, lots of serious Quaker types – I stuffed envelopes for draft resisters, stuff like that.
      • Beth Emet synagogue – where I learned to hate Judaism, but the rabbi David Polish was a serious man and once hosted MLK Jr.
