    • An anonymous narrator is trapped in a seedy movie house, endlessly cycling through various fucked up films, all of which are parodies of various genres. Not parodies exactly, that's what MAD does. This is not fun, it's deeply unpleasant. In all the films, the narrative machinery is (a) employed on a film-industry reality and (b) broken in some way.
    • A unique portrait of guilt, the way we hide in narratives but ultimately can't escape reality.
    • The structure and conception are genius, but somehow it seems a weakness that the narrator is in fact guilty of an awful crime, in some ways the worst imaginable, and thus deserves her torment and kind of knows it. Compare to Kafka where the guilt is unspecified, formless, imposed from without upon an innocent soul.
