Book Reading/2025
02 May 2025 - 23 Jan 2026
- New approach: will put in progress or hopeful entries here, not just completion awards.
- The Ringworld Engineers, Larry Niven Jan 6th, 2025
- reread after 40 years or so...based on a random Reddit convo. No it wasn't that horribly sexist, although it had a nerdy utilitarian take on sex itself.
- Giordano Bruno and the Hermetic Tradition
- had this from the library and then vgr put it on his book club list.
- Data and Reality (book club but dropped out)
- Firesign, Braddock, from JShrager, 3/21 (see Firesign Theater )
- The Master and Margarita, 5/1
- took me forever, not sure why, it's a fun book but i wasn't that into it
- (surely something else between these two? I guess I was busy)
- V for Vendetta (graphic novel. reread) 9/1
- Tons of Bergson and related materials for Weird Studies/Courses/Bergson.
- The Physicist and the Philosopher, Jimena Canales
- Herald of a Restless World, Emily Herring
- Playground, Riehard Powers, Nov 2nd, 2025
- Normally a Powers fan, this didn't quite do it for me. Maybe too close to home. One of the main characters is a hacker from Evanston, my hometown. Also "Playground" was one of the systems of Vivarium which also did quite a lot of modeling of ocean life. The book was a bit too schematic. Still some lovely depictions of ocean life. Also a nice ref to Finite and Infinite Games, underscoring the theme of life as Play.
- More Everything Forever, Adam Becker
- Shadow Ticket, Pynchon (finished Jan 23rd, 2026 )
